BEAT OF A WING
B.o.w legacy series
REF: BW25CLB2
EDITION: 1 OF 1
BRAN has officially ceased creating the "Beat of a Wing" series due to the alarming decline in butterfly species and the dwindling number of butterfly farms, a consequence of climate change. This piece in the BOW Legacy Series carries all the original species, showcasing their natural vibrancy and unaltered beauty. Many mistakenly believe the butterflies are painted, but their stunning colours are entirely natural. If kept out of direct sunlight, these preserved specimens can last a lifetime.
Some of the species in Bran’s collection date back to the 1800s, carefully preserved and shielded from light, the colours serving as a testament to the extraordinary complexity and brilliance of Mother Nature’s designs. In this artwork, the butterflies overwhelm the man-made tool, reclaiming their rightful place and symbolising nature's resilience and power to restore balance to the planet.
The "Beat of a Wing" pieces are both a celebration of nature’s magnificence and a poignant reminder of the fragility of our ecosystems. It marks the end of an era, carrying with it a powerful message about the urgent need to protect what remains of the natural world.
Narrative:
This artwork is based on the artist's utopian vision or dream, despite the world being consumed by human greed, the beat of the butterfly wing (the chaos theory) could still have a small impact on the atmosphere, potentially changing the planet's path and returning it to a time before humans' destructive impulses took over. The butterflies also symbolize nature taking over the destructive forces of humanity.
The butterflies become active agents of this vision, taking hold of the AK-47 rather than simply alighting on it, their complete life process enacted on the bayonet as a declaration of the life force of Mother Nature itself.
The Process:
Bran carefully selects specific species of butterflies through ethical means by working with professional lepidopterists. After rehydrating each one, he positions their wings to create a visually striking piece of art that highlights the natural beauty of their colours and patterns. To add a unique touch, Bran uses real deactivated AK-47s sourced from conflict zones around the world. With weeks of preparation and expertise, Bran creates one-of-a-kind art pieces that are highly sought after by collectors around the globe.
